IEEE 802.3af standard defines the specifications to deliver power over standard Ethernet cables. It has been approved on June 12, 2003, by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). Power over Ethernet Midspan, with 1,6,12 or 24 output ports, is connected in cascade to exisintg Ethernet Switch/Hub. As such, it is a scalable solution for upgrading a network to support Power over Ethernet. Power over Ethernet Midspan is the first system on the market to supply reliable, uninterrupted power to IP phones, wireless LAN access points, Network Security, and other ethernet devices using existing LAN cable infrastructure. This patented technology, when used in conjunction with a centralized UPS, ensures continuous operation during power failures while eliminating the time and cost of installing separate power cabling and of providing a dedicated, uninterrupted power supply for individual terminals and devices. |
